Day on the Hill

This year’s early childhood day on the hill was held Monday, March 19. The theme for the day is two-generational work – a perfect fit for the important impact made by Head Start. IHSA hosted a display table with a monopoly board theme.  Thanks to all who participated!

Review Feedback

NICAO completed their Focus Area 2 and CLASS review during the week of March 19th.  Feedback from staff, especially those that have been through the review process previously, was that it was a much more relaxed environment with the opportunity to show off program strengths.  The FA2 reviewers visited 10 of our 18 classrooms, and CLASS observed 14 of our 16 Head Start rooms.  The main focus of the review was to see what systems you have in place, how you collect your data, and what changes you have made with that data.  I am more than willing to answer any questions regarding the review process or what to expect.  Melissa Nelson - mnelson@NICAO-ONLINE.ORG.

Power to the Profession Survey

The board participated in a focus group for the Power to the Profession work that is happening at the national level.  They need YOUR input. Please complete the feedback surveys as the decision cycles are released. To learn more: https://www.naeyc.org/our-work/initiatives/profession/decision-cycles

QRIS Update

A work group of Head Start directors combed through the Head Start Performance Standards and aligned them with the proposed new QRIS system.  The group recommended that Head Starts come in at a level 5.  Documentation was provided to the QRIS oversight team in October. IHSA will submit a letter to the oversight team requesting an opportunity to dialogue about the alignment.
