The Iowa Head Start Association Board met Monday, May 16, 2018 and has the following messages for you:

 Regional Award Winner:

Congratulations to Julie Lang who was selected as the Region VII Head Start Association Administrator of the Year.  We are very proud to have Julie represent Iowa so well!


QRIS Update

The QRIS oversight team indicated in communication this month to IHSA that the new system will roll out in July 2019. IHSA will reach out once more to request a meeting with the team to discuss how Head Start will fit into the system.


Early Care and Education Fall Institute & IHSA Annual Meeting

Please join us October 5-6, 2018 for the Iowa AEYC Early Care and Education Fall Institute, It Begins with Me. We will hear from keynote speakers Dr. Adolph Brown, III and Marie Masterson and experience over 70 breakout workshop sessions. Don’t miss the IHSA annual meeting on Friday, October 5. The Fall Institute will be at Prairie Meadows Events and Conference Center in Altoona. Registration materials will be available this summer!

By-Law Changes

The IHSA board has proposed two changes to the by-laws. One outlines the intention of board leadership for the vice-president to move in to the president role upon vacancy. The second changes board member terms from 2 to 3 years.  Please provide your feedback on these changes to


Head Start State Collaboration Office 5 Year Goals

The board voted to endorse the HSSCO’s five year goals at the May meeting.  The five year goals are as follows:

GOAL ONE: Promote and facilitate the development and maintenance of successful collaborations among Head Start, AEAs, and LEAs (plus EC partners) at a state and local level.

GOAL TWO: Assure Head Start data is integrated as much as possible within state data systems.

GOAL THREE: Create materials and a process to support, raise awareness, and provide guidance to various community partners to establish and expand Early Head Start-Child Care partnerships.

GOAL FOUR: Promote collaboration between child care system partners and Head Start that includes data exchange, joint professional development and an alignment of standards.

GOAL FIVE: Promote the development of a robust early childhood workforce development system that provides Iowa Head Start programs with a competent, educated and well-compensated workforce

GOAL SIX: Support efforts to make Head Start a vibrant leader in quality through the new Quality Rating and Improvement System.

GOAL SEVEN: Cultivate and nurture highly productive partnerships with partners at a state and local level in the areas of health, mental health and nutrition; and services for children with disabilities.
